What people don’t seem to understand, is that the pursuit of money only leads you into a bracketed situation where the only form of solace is to acquire -more- money. The pursuit of monetary things for personal gain leaves you with a want and longing for “more”, this inevitably leaves people unhappy, unfulfilled and miserable. How do you subside this then? It’s difficult given the climate of our society and the nature of most of our current driving social forces, however it is possible.
Figure out what true and lasting happiness is, at least to you. What will grant you peace of mind, where will grant you peace of mind, and who will aid in granting you this peace of mind. This is not to undermine individual ambitions, however ambition if not tempered can lead us down a path of self consumption and self destruction. If your entire motivational process is money? then you will eventually be voided of happiness once a goal has been attained, as the allure of more driven by the social formations currently imposed on the individual will drive in the pursuit of a controlled idea, this idea however is not your controlled idea. You will forever be stuck on an endlessly rotating wheel akin to the hamster, always in pursuit of being under a controlled idea, but never satisfied until the inevitable end.
Monetary transactions and its entire concept is a controlled idea, a controlled idea which is meant to drive a larger machine fueling a small groups insatiable monetary desires, while chasing yours under false pretenses.
The pursuit of personal desires, although enticing inevitably leaves one with somewhat of an empty feeling. This is not to say to not pursue personal goals, however i suggest we look at it in a different way. Understand what it is to live comfortably in this current situation, without the driving force to attain more of a monetary bracket. Simplicity is perhaps the best course, there is no need for overt extravagance, and at the same time there is no need to live impoverished. The most overlooked ideal is the golden mean presented by Aristotle. There is no need to live in impoverished conditions, however excess and glutenous tendencies are also ill advised. So then we have the middle ground.
How do you even begin to unwrap what the middle ground is? for everyone, it’s different - however for any breathing soul, the middle ground is almost always underpinned by scattered selfless acts. Acts of kindness to fellow human beings, perhaps a stranger or someone close. The feeling created by working for something outside the self lends credit to this longer lasting, “happy” feeling, a feeling almost indescribable. Not only acts of kindness however, but acts into the unknown and garnering new experience free form the restrictions of monetary values.
I say this, as if you speak with any elderly person nearing the end of their life, their recollection of memories consist not of their monetary pursuit, but of the experiences, the acts of kindness, the acts tied to emotion - The emotional value. The speak of regrets of adventure, or of blissful remembrance of enjoyable moments and times with other people. It is the experience, and the emotional attachment to joy and kindness with others that lead to happiness and blissful thoughts at the end, not the pursuit of individual monetary gains.
The truest meaning of a human life, takes place after they’ve parted - it is the impact they leave behind to those that have ever had a connection to them. How do you change the world? you start small - you start with kindness, and living in between the lines of the golden mean. You commit reflexive acts of kindness and outward care towards those around you, and to complete strangers. Only then can we begin to unwrap what the golden mean is for all of us. Only then can we change the world. Only then can we be happy
